  The days are coming closer and our excitement is rising. We all by now know, fasting is not just about abstaining from food and drink but striving to better ourselves. وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا By the soul and (by) Him who made it perfect, and then inspired it to understand what is wrong and what is right for it. Truly is successful the one who purifies (his soul) (Qur’an 91:7-9)   The verse just lays bare our motto. But cleansing our nafs is a challenge indeed. The struggle of one individual will be completely different from the other. I might be striving to be patient with my children while you are striving to start wearing hijab or may be trying to stop backbiting. I guess intention is what matters – as long as we are working to please Allah we are doing it right.
