🌙Ramadan Nafs Challenge

The days are coming closer and our excitement is rising.

We all by now know, fasting is not just about abstaining from food and drink but striving to better ourselves.

وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا

By the soul and (by) Him who made it perfect,

and then inspired it to understand what is wrong and what is right for it.

Truly is successful the one who purifies (his soul)

(Qur’an 91:7-9)

The verse just lays bare our motto. But cleansing our nafs is a challenge indeed.

The struggle of one individual will be completely different from the other.

I might be striving to be patient with my children while you are striving to start wearing hijab or may be trying to stop backbiting.

I guess intention is what matters – as long as we are working to please Allah we are doing it right.

Let us try to analyse ourselves to change into a better human being through Allah’s Help.

🔅Only Allah  (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) knows you better than yourself. The primary step is to seek His Help.

🔅Acknowledge where you need improvement and be honest with yourself. Keep this hadeeth in mind: “The greatest Jihad is to battle your own soul , to fight the evil within yourself”.

🔅List the problematic habits or tasks

🔅Prioritise them according to your weakness.

🔅 Any good deed is rewarded multiple times in Ramadan, keep reminding yourself about it.

🔅If you are not sure how to go about a particular task learn why Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) has asked us to do so. Find out about the worldly benefits as well as the reward from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) and the importance of being away from the anger of Allah. There are lots of tips and ideas online to help you, whatever your challenge may be.

🔅Finally don’t forget to promise a reward for yourself when you accomplish the Ramadan Nafs challenge Insha’Allah.

I pray that we will be able to use this Ramadan wisely and come out with shining and pure nafs on the day when the only words we will be able to utter will be “Ya Nafsi … Ya Nafsi …”
