Beyond Her Veil

Who is she behind her veil?

An oppressed, sad lady following the cultural laws to survive?
We see the whole world trying to help Muslim woman get out of the prison of hijab, right?
If a woman wears her veil for the right reasons, it is completely a different story. She feels liberated, confident, comfortable, strong and happy.
The happiness and comfort level increases as her love for her Lord increases, and how does that happen?
Through knowledge.
The only way we can improve ourselves is through knowledge, and gaining knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.

We have been hearing this word “Hijab” and the controversies revolving around it a lot recently.
As Muslim women, we should know what exactly “The Hijab” is.
Even if you are not a person who observes it, it is essential to know what it actually is. Many people give their definitions of hijab, of which some are funny, some baseless, and some pathetic.
What does Islam teach us about hijab?
Why do women wear a hijab?
Is it a compulsory ?
Then why are some not wearing it?
And the list goes on…
So, let’s begin with Who is a Muslim?
Muslim means a person who submits himself/herself to Allah.
If we call ourselves a Muslim, that means we have submitted ourselves to Allah.

Now let’s get a closer look at Hijab.
The word meaning of hijab is a barrier or partition. It can be anything: a curtain, veil, screen…
It is used as a term to describe modesty for both men and women.
In general, it is defined as the headscarf women use to cover their head.
But is it just that piece of cloth?
The answer is NO, hijab has a much broader meaning.
It is how a woman dresses herself modestly from head to toe, except for her face and hands. It is also the way she carries herself.
She wears it as an act of obedience to her Lord.
And yes, it is a compulsory for Allah says
“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.”
(Surah Ahzab verse 59)
Now the question arises why some women opt not to wear a hijab. Because it is their choice, and that doesn’t make wearing a hijab an optional act of obedience.
It is compulsory, and cannot be changed as it is clearly stated so by Allah in His Noble Quran.
If we understand the rank of Muslim women in Islam we will be astonished.
Beyond her Veil, she is an
Amazingly amazing woman who is not slave to anyone except Allah,
not worried about what others think of her looks but cares for what she is from within,
knows who and what she wants,
cares for all creations of Allah,
tries to be her best version not just for people revolving around her but for herself as well.
In simple words you can call her an intelligent, wise, liberated, happy woman who has much higher goals in life compared to the temporary joys of this world.
